(PrimeChronicle.org) – Democratic Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, has just declared April as Arab Heritage Month. At least five other governors have also announced their support of April as Arab History Month. President Joe Biden initiated the move when he recognized April as Arab History Month in April 2023. Biden’s move may have been largely performative, but the endorsement by multiple governors appears to confirm Arab History Month as a recognized state holiday.
Arabs residing in the United States say they feel “betrayed” by President Joe Biden’s continued support for Israel. Arab voters in Michigan have asserted that Biden should face “punishment” for backing Israel. Anti-Israel student activists have been erecting makeshift encampments occupying Ivy League Universities across the nation. Activists demand that US businesses immediately end partnerships with Israel-based organizations.
On October 7th the Palestine-based terror group known as Hamas attacked Israel killing over 1200 people and kidnapping an additional 200. Reports suggest Hamas combatants raped and even burned alive numerous women. One report includes a 79-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl who were burned alive in separate instances.
Hamas terrorists are also known to target LGBT people including an instance of a gay Palestinian man being beheaded while attempting to flee to Israel for asylum. Sagi Golan was just weeks away from marrying his boyfriend when he was killed during the October massacre.
The FBI released a statement warning that extremists may attempt to reproduce atrocities carried out by Hamas overseas in the United States. Hate crimes in NYC targeting Jewish individuals rose from about 15 a month during the summer of 2023 to about 70 a month during the fall of the same year. Hate crimes targeting Arab Americans are currently being tallied by various groups, but an official number has not been released.
Newsom has faced criticism for factoring national and global policy over policy that directly affects the residents of California.
