(PrimeChronicle.org) – Federal agents in Boston are seeking to confiscate over $4,000 from Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was convicted of the Boston Marathon bombing.
The incarcerated terrorist has roughly $4,200 in his prison canteen account. Tsarnaev’s attorney is working to prevent the seizure of the funds, arguing that his client has not used the funds “profligately”.
Tsarnaev has also received $26,000 in donations from individuals who may be sympathetic to his cause. Tsarnaev has been ordered to pay $101 million to the victims of the attack. His attorney reports that Tsarnaev has paid only $2,600 thus far.
The Tsarnaev brothers used improvised explosives made with pressure cookers to carry out the terror attack. Two hundred sixty people were injured, 17 lost limbs, three were killed at the event, and one police officer was killed days later by Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev.
Martin Richard was eight years old. Krystle Campbell, who attended the race with a friend to take photos, was 29 years old. Twenty three year old Lingzi Lu was at the finish line when she was killed. The killings did not end that day at the event. A few days later, Police Officer Sean Collier was shot to death while in his patrol car by the Tsarnaev brothers.
It is suspected that the brothers carried out the shooting in retaliation for the FBI releasing their photos. The brothers were later involved in an additional police shootout. During the chaos, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev drove a vehicle into his brother, Tamerlan, who later succumbed to his injuries.
The victims haven’t been forgotten. Martin Richard’s brother, Henry Richard, was only ten years old when his brother was killed. Henry began participating in the Marathon in 2022 to honor his brother. Henry said that seeing friends and family continue to run the marathon feels deeply meaningful and he plans to continue to support the marathon and keep the memory of his brother alive.
