(PrimeChronicle.org) – Newly unsealed FBI records suggest former President Donald Trump ignored ample warnings to return documents connected to Trump’s November 2021 federal document controversy. During an interview, an unnamed associate of Former President Donald Trump revealed that he warned Trump that he could get himself indicted if Trump did not return the documents being requested by the National Archives.
The unnamed individual, dubbed “Person 16”, asserted that Trump had been provided numerous clear warnings to return the controversial documents. Person 16 explained that Trump brushed off the warning after a young woman approached the former president to have a photo taken.
Person 16 stated that Trump’s children may have been recruited to convince their father to return the requested documents. Person 16 claims that one of the Trump children was told the alleged boxes of documents in Trump’s possession were government property and were instructed to “talk to your dad” to pressure Trump into returning the documents.
Along with the interview, the FBI has also released a detailed timeline of the raid on Donald Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago in August of 2022. The timeline outlines the minute-by-minute events of the search including when federal agents forced access into Trump’s personal safe. Additionally, the unsealed records showed that the FBI had considered surveilling the former president’s private plane to determine if it carried any of the document boxes.
Included in the unsealed records was an FBI memo that solidified Attorney General Merrick Garland’s role in the series of events that led up to the raid on Trump’s private residence. According to an email dated March 2022, Garland signed off on the “full investigation” into Trump’s handling of classified documents
According to the released documents, the FBI was able to coordinate with the United States Secret Service to gain entry to the campus.
US District Judge Aileen Cannon ordered the release of the records.
